Description

The 330878-91-05 is part of the Bently Nevada “3300 XL” (or similar) Proximity/Proximitor sensor family, designed for non-contact displacement (gap) measurement

 of conductive targets (e.g., shafts, collars) in rotating machinery.Specifically, the “3300 XL 50 mm” transducer system is often referenced for

the 330878 series. The datasheet describes a system consisting of: a probe (50 mm / some range), extension cable, and the Proximitor

 (signal conditioning) sensor module. The table of suffix codes (e.g., “-91-05”) typically encodes length/mounting

option (“91” = 9.0 m system length with DIN-rail mount) and approval

 option (“05” = multiple approvals) for that series.

FAQ


Q1: What exactly does the 330878-91-05 measure?
A1: It measures the gap between the probe tip and a conductive target (e.g., shaft, collar). That gap changes as the rotor moves, vibrates, expands, or displaces. The sensor outputs a voltage proportional to that gap/displacement.


Q2: How linear and how far is its measurement range?
A2: For the 50 mm coil version (which the 330878 series belongs to) the maximum linear range is up to ~27.9 mm (1.1 in). The output is ~0.394 V/mm for that range.Note: the usable “linear” portion might be less depending on installation, target size, cable length, ambient conditions.



Q3: What is the power supply and wiring requirement?
A3: Typical Proximitor sensors require a negative DC supply (e.g., -17.5 Vdc to -26 Vdc) and a load resistor of 10 kΩ, for the 50 mm version.  Field wiring: shielded triad cable recommended, cable capacitance/inductance must meet spec to maintain performance.



Q4: Can I extend the cable length?
A4: Yes, but within limits: for example, the datasheet mentions a maximum cable+probe length of up to ~9 m for the system length (depending version) and cable capacitance/inductance loads must remain under specified values to maintain hazardous-area certification. Longer lengths possible but performance (frequency response, accuracy) may degrade if spec >305 m cable or improper cable type.
